The Philadelphia Union had been winless on the season in MLS going 0-44 through their first eight games. The Union hadn’t won a game since their 2-0 win over Sporting KC in August of the 2016 season. This past week against the New York Red Bulls at home though the Union broke their winless run thanks to former Sporting KC forward, CJ Sapong. Sapong scored his first career hattrick to lead the Union to a 3-0 win over the Red Bulls. Sapong tied his goal scoring mark for all of last year as he now has seven goals on the season and looks a good bet to reach double digits in league play for the first time in his career.
