On a youth soccer field in the outskirts of Kansas City, a World Cup veteran observed a young team’s training session. Brad Davis waited until the end of practice to speak with the coach, older brother Jeff.
Instead, he delivered an apology, of sorts. After being traded to Sporting Kansas City earlier in the month, Davis’ arrival — by way of a trade with rival Houston — received a mostly frosty reception. So on the practice field a couple of weeks later, he spoke to the club team’s players and parents, hoping to win over some early support.
