Unfortunately professional sports can be unforgiving, and for former Sporting Kansas City academy player, Joey Piatczyc, his professional career is over before it began. In an interview with Red Bulls News Network, Piatczyc said that he’d found out after the MLS Combine that he had a tear in his lateral meniscus. While getting that repaired, Piatczyc’s doctor discovered a cartilage defect. Piatczyc could have had another surgery and been back in 9 to 16 months, but instead called it a career. It’s a sad, disappointing moment for the Lee’s Summit native who looked like he could have been a contributor for the New York Red Bulls USL side.
