Former Sporting Kansas City outside back and winger, Marcel De Jong has called time on his career as a professional soccer player. The 34 year old brought an end to his 17 year career that began back in 2004 in the Netherlands. After playing for Helmond Sport and Roda JC, De Jong moved to the German Bundesliga with FC Augsburg before joining Sporting in the 2015 season. De Jong was expected to challenge Seth Sinovic for the starting left back spot, in what seemed like an ongoing saga for Peter Vermes to replace the KC native, Sinovic.
