Southern Miss baseball trailed Coastal Carolina 7-4 headed into the sixth inning on Sunday. The Golden Eagles already dropped the first two games of the series and the Chanticleers — the No. 1 team in the Sun Belt Conference — were dominant in 15-7 and 20-7 victories at Spring Brooks Stadium in Conway, South Carolina.
Three home runs from Southern Miss (23-15, 11-7 SBC) helped propel the Golden Eagles to a 15-7 victory over Coastal Carolina (26-12, 11-5) to salvage a win in a series between the top two teams in the conference.
Slade Wilks and Matthew Etzel led the way with a combined five hits and seven RBIs to help Southern Miss snap a three-game losing streak, which began with a 3-1 loss to Louisiana Tech last Tuesday.
