The Southern Miss baseball season came to a bitter end only minutes before Scott Berry sat down in front of a room full of reporters in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.
His Golden Eagles had just lost back-to-back games to Mississippi State at the Hattiesburg Regional final at Pete Taylor Park in Hattiesburg. The Bulldogs had just become the 22nd team since 1999 to lose the first game of a regional tournament only to rally and advance to the super regional round.
Southern Miss, needing but one win in two games against Mississippi State to secure just its second regional title in program history, lost game one 8-1 on a water-logged playing surface nearly five hours after it was scheduled to start.
