USM's Dawson: Third-and-short a problem area

Few in Southern Miss’ camp are displeased with the team’s performance on offense two games into the 2016 season.

Understandable considering the 2-0 start and how the Golden Eagles’ production appears in black and white. In fact, Jay Hopson’s squad has been dominant on paper through the first two weeks.

Southern Miss ranks second in Conference USA and ninth in the country in total offense (567.5 yards per game). The Black and Gold defense, coming off a glistening showing in a 56-0 win over Savannah State, is second in the league and eighth in the nation in total defense (225 yards allowed per game).
