Savannah State has not enjoyed much in the way of success in recent years.
It’s been seven years since the Tigers — a member of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) — have won more than one game in a season. And eight years since they’ve won more than two.
But according to Southern Miss head coach Jay Hopson, such a string of futility doesn’t mean his team’s matchup Saturday (6 p.m.) against Savannah State will come without challenges. Topping the list for the Golden Eagles is the Tigers’ multiplicity on offense.
“They give you a lot of different looks,” Hopson said.
