HATTIESBURG - Dylan Burdeaux homered twice and Kirk McCarty tied his career-high with nine strikeouts to lead Southern Miss to a 13-2 win over UTSA on Saturdayat Pete Taylor Park, completing the three-game series sweep.
The run-rule victory that ended in the bottom of the eighth was the team’s 15th win in its last 16 regular-season contests versus league competition dating back to last season.
In addition to Burdeaux’s pair of dingers, Hunter Slater and Daniel Keating both parked two-run home runs in Southern Miss’ power surge. The Golden Eagles (19-6, 5-1 C-USA) have hit 33 as a team through the season’s first 25 games after hitting 42 last season.
