The worst is over for Southern Miss.
On Friday, the NCAA handed down its final ruling related to its investigation of the university and former men’s basketball coach Donnie Tyndall, who led the Golden Eagles to a 56-17 record over the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons.
“Today’s a good day because it’s behind us,” Southern Miss athletic director Bill McGillis said. “I don’t think people truly realize the adversity (the basketball program) has endured for almost two years. I’m just really proud of our guys. They’ve suffered a lot, but they’ve persevered.”
Southern Miss received three years' probation to run through the 2020 season and must vacate its wins from the games in which ineligible student-athletes participated.
