Tyndall hit hard, USM on probation from NCAA case

Former Southern Miss men's basketball coachDonnie Tyndall received a 10-year show-cause penalty from the NCAA Friday.

Southern Miss received three years' probation to run through the 2020 season and must vacate its wins from the games in which ineligible student-athletes participated. Southern Miss self-imposed back-to-back postseason bans for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons, and the NCAA ruled there will be no further postseason bans.

In addition, Southern Miss will see a reduction in available scholarships by five over the next three years. The university must also pay a $5,000 fine as well as an amount equal to 1 percent of the men's basketball program's average total budget over the past three seasons.
