Hattiesburg Mayor Toby Barker went almost six months without giving someone a key to the city.
On Thursday, that changed. Barker recognized Minnesota Twins second baseman Brian Dozier, a former Southern Miss star and current Hattiesburg resident, with both a proclamation as well as one of the top honors a city can bestow on a resident or esteemed visitor.
Dozier, a Golden Eagle stalwart from 2006-09 who helped get the team to its only College World Series, made Hattiesburg his permanent home shortly after his collegiate playing career ended.
