In Saturday’s contest against Troy at M.M. Roberts Stadium, Southern Miss overcame a 24-10 disadvantage, knotting things up at 24-all early in the second half. The Golden Eagles, who fell behind 34-24 in the third quarter, pulled to within 34-31. But Jay Hopson’s squad could not pull off the improbable rally, falling 37-31.
Southern Miss drops to 2-1 this season, while Troy improves to 2-1.
Southern Miss, trailing 37-31, had a chance to win the game. The homestanding Eagles took possession with less than 2 minutes to play, and drove to the Trojan 9-yard line with 3 seconds to go.
