Southern Miss’ dominant 56-0 victory over Savannah State was barely a half-hour old.
But the Golden Eagles’ next opponent, Troy, already had the team’s undivided attention.
While Jay Hopson’s squad (2-0 for the first time since 2009) was gearing up to face the Tigers, the Trojans were catching the eye of much of the college football world Saturday afternoon. Troy squared off against Clemson and stood toe-to-toe with the second-ranked team in the country. The game was tied 3-3 after one quarter and Clemson led by just a field goal after three quarters.
The Tigers pulled away in the fourth quarter to claim a 30-24 victory, but notice was served.
