PEARL — In a state full of baseball heavyweights, Southern Miss owns the championship belt.
The No. 24 Golden Eagles (20-8, 7-2 Conference USA) took down No. 8 Ole Miss (19-9, 4-5 SEC) in a 10-7 win at Trustmark Park in Pearl on Tuesday. The win came a month after Southern Miss also beat in-state foe Mississippi State in Pearl, winning that game 7-1.
Mississippi State is college baseball's defending national champion. Ole Miss was ranked as the No. 1 team in America just two weeks ago. Southern Miss has taken down both of them in decisive fashion.
