Southern Mississippi's problem during the season wasn't that it was a bad team. It wasn't that they couldn't hit or field or pitch well. The problem was that it couldn't bring it all together on a consistent basis.
It was something that head coach Scott Berry had talked about all season long. He knew his team had the potential to be a great one if only it could find a smidgen of consistency and have complete games in all phases.
Just as good teams do, Southern Miss found that consistency.
The Golden Eagles rode it to an undefeated Conference USA tournament that culminated in Sunday's 4-0 win over Rice.
