HATTIESBURG – Southern Miss didn’t take any chances Tuesday at Reed Green Coliseum, dispatching the Millsaps 81-47.
The Golden Eagles (7-2) started fast and finished strong, using an aggressive style of play to overwhelm the out-manned Majors (8-1).
Southern Miss played press defense for nearly the entire first half, and it worked. The Golden Eagles forced 11 turnovers and scored 19 points off them to build a 44-23 by the break. The Golden Eagles never trailed after the first minute of the game and never led by fewer than 20 points in the second half.
"We wanted to pressure them right off the bat," Southern Miss coach Doc Sadler said.
