The Southern Miss women’s soccer team defeated Western Kentucky on Sunday, Sept. 16, to earn a 1-0 start in Conference USA play. The Golden Eagles’ 7-1 overall record is the team’s best start through eight games since the team started the 2013 season 5-1-2.
“First of all, I’m really proud of the girls for the effort that they brought and the commitment, not only from the ladies but from our coaching staff and support staff,” Head Coach Mohammed El-Zare said. “Everybody is just doing so well, and I’m very proud of that.”
The team showed a lot of promise in non-conference play leading up to the weekend, but hosting a 2-3-2 Western Kentucky team was certainly important in determining where the team stands among the other conference programs.
