Southern Miss defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong sat on the second floor of the Duff Athletic Center, sipped sparingly on his Starbucks order and spoke candidly about what his defense could do better.
This — a few days after the Golden Eagles lost their Sun Belt Conference opener to Troy on Oct. 8 — was not a topic of conversation that was forced upon him. His defense had largely held up its end of the bargain in a 27-10 defeat, holding the Trojans to 338 yards of offense and generating two takeaways.
Four of the five Troy scoring drives had come off Southern Miss turnovers.
