Southern Miss defeated UAB 8-0 Sunday to clinch the regular-season Conference USA championship outright for just the second time in school history.
The first-place Golden Eagles (40-12, 22-5 in C-USA) entered play Sunday four games ahead of Old Dominion in the league standings with four C-USA games remaining for both teams. The Monarchs are mathematically eliminated from regular-season title contention.
The championship is the 19th-ranked Golden Eagles’ sixth overall, the fourth regular-season crown. But it’s the first time since 2003 the team has won the C-USA title outright. In 2011 and 2013, Southern Miss won a share of the championship (Rice).
