Matthew Guidry has called it a career.
The longtime Southern Miss second basemen announced on Friday afternoon he was "ready to start the next chapter" of his life. In March, the NCAA voted to give senior sport athletes an extra year of eligibility after the coronavirus canceled the 2020 season prematurely.
"My family and close friends have been so supportive in this decision making process and I can't explain how much I appreciate them for that," Guidry wrote in his announcement. "Though I won't be competing on the field, Southern Miss Baseball will always hold a special place in my heart.
