After a prolific season at the minor league level, Southern Miss baseball alumnus Matt Wallner is headed to the big leagues for the first time.
The Minnesota Twins announced on Saturday that Wallner, an outfielder, has been called up to replace Max Kepler, who is headed to the injured list.
Wallner is the third Golden Eagle to earn his first promotion to Major League Baseball this season, joining Chuckie Robinson of the Reds and Kirk McCarty of the Guardians.
