A big comeback bid fell short as Southern Miss fell to Wichita State 63-60 Saturday night on the road.

The Golden Eagles (7-3) trailed 52-36 with 10:34 left, but put together a 24-7 run to take a 60-59 lead with 53.7 seconds remaining in the game.

But Wichita State (6-4) regained that lead 13 seconds later and never gave it back.

Southern Miss guard Tyree Griffin was fouled on a 3-point bucket with half a second left in the game and Southern Miss trailing by three, but was shaken up and couldn't take his own foul shots.
