Southern Miss fell to 0-2 in Conference USA play Thursday afternoon with a 73-65 loss to Rice in Houston.
The Golden Eagles (8-6, 0-2 C-USA) built a solid first-half lead but couldn’t withstand the rally from the Owls (6-9, 1-1 C-USA), which went on a 19-4 run in the second half to pull away late.
“We’ve not been able to score baskets,” Southern Miss coach Doc Sadler said. “That’s about as hard as we’ve played in a long time, and I was pleased with that.
