Report: Southern Miss interim football coach Scotty Walden leaves for Austin Peay vacancy

Southern Miss interim football coach Scotty Walden has found a full-time job, according to reports.

Yahoo Sports reporter Pete Thamel is reporting that Walden has accepted the job to be the next head coach at Austin Peay, effective immediately. Walden, who took over for former Southern Miss coach Jay Hopson in September, is expected to be replaced by assistant head coach Tim Billings.

Southern Miss is 1-4 this season, 1-3 since Walden took over as head coach, where he became the youngest head coach in the FBS. A former Division III head coach, Walden had worked as Southern Miss' wide receivers coach since 2017 and took over as co-offensive coordinator this season.
