HATTIESBURG – The rich got richer Wednesday as Southern Miss signed several offensive skill position players on the first day of National Signing Day.
Southern Miss coach Jay Hopson may have landed his quarterback of the future in Memphis dual-threat prospect Jaden Johnson, the highest-rated of the Golden Eagles’ seven three-star signees that signed Tuesday.
Once committed to Louisville, Johnson flipped to Southern Miss after the firing of former Cardinal coach Bobby Petrino. Indiana and Memphis also vied for his signature.
Hopson spoke at an event at the Jackson Hilton Wednesday and said Johnson reminds him of former Marshall quarterback Byron Leftwich, who went on to have a successful NFL career.
