After Woodrow Lowe got the "yes" from his soon-to-be wife, Linda, he had another person from whom he needed to get a "yes'" – his coach, Paul W. "Bear" Bryant.
Lowe, an All-American linebacker for Alabama football in the 1970s, wanted to get married his sophomore year. But he didn’t want to move forward without first asking Bryant.
“That’s how much I thought of him,” Lowe told The Tuscaloosa News. “I knew I had to ask him because if he said no, I was not going to do it.”
Lowe wanted to clear it with Bryant because he appreciated having the coach there to help steer him in the right direction, no matter the subject.
