Southern Miss, which coughed up a 2-1 lead by giving up 6 runs to Rice in the eighth inning, tied the game by scoring 5 two-out runs in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extras. In the 12th, Matt Wallner’s walk-off single scored Jaylon Keys from second base to give the team an 8-7 win in 12 innings.
The Golden Eagles improve to 19-6 overall and 6-1 in Conference USA, to remain in first place in the league.
