HATTIESBURG — The 2020 FBS season begins on Thursday night with Southern Miss hosting South Alabama.
After five months of uncertainty about whether the season would begin owing the COVID-19 pandemic, the season is here. Jay Hopson begins his fifth year coaching Southern Miss with senior quarterback Jack Abraham leading the offense. South Alabama is coached by Steve Campbell and lists sophomore Desmond Trotter as its starting quarterback.
This game will be the first college football game between two FBS opponents in 2020. It is televised on the CBS Sports Network. Around 9,000 fans are expected to be in attendance and are expected to keep social distance and wear face coverings when they aren't in their seats.
