Southern Miss football dropped its homecoming game to UTEP, 26-14, on Saturday night. The two teams traded touchdowns on their opening drives, but the Miners were able to score 19 unanswered points to pull away.
Here are three things we learned:
Jake Lange’s first start
The former walk-on quarterback was pressed into emergency duty the previous week against Rice following an injury to Ty Keyes, but his first start came Saturday.
Lange looked improved, completing 21 of 32 passes for 238 yards and two touchdowns, but it was far from perfect. An interception in the second quarter ended a promising Southern Miss drive and gave UTEP a short field.
