Doc Sadler has spent his career stressing defense.
The third-year Southern Miss men’s basketball coach routinely champions the results created by grinding his players through strenuous and lengthy defensive drills before and during the season.
But Sadler has put that strategy on hold for now. His complete and full attention, as well as the team’s, must be focused on repairing the Golden Eagles’ feeble offense. Southern Miss (3-10, 0-1 in Conference USA) is averaging just 59.8 points per game this season, the sixth-worst clip out of the 347 Division I teams in the country.
Since Sadler’s team returned from a tournament in Hawaii the day after Christmas, it’s been all about the offense.
