HATTIESBURG - One team is among the nation’s best on offense.
The other boasts one of the top defenses in the country.
Southern Miss and Washington will meet on the gridiron at 1:20 p.m. Saturday in the Heart of Dallas Bowl to determine which team’s strong suit is best. The Golden Eagles, Conference USA’s West Division champions, enter play with a 9-4 record, while the Pac-12’s Huskies are 6-6.
Second-year Washington head coach Chris Petersen last saw Southern Miss early in 2013, his final year as head coach at Boise State. The Broncos mopped the floor with the Golden Eagles, winning 63-7, but Petersen could tell then it was only a matter of time before Todd Monken would right the ship in Hattiesburg.
