AUBURN, Ala. — Southern Miss baseball is face-to-face with its worst-case scenario.
The Golden Eagles are 0-1, one loss from elimination with four wins in three days now required to advance. And they've spent their All-American pitcher, Tanner Hall, who gave USM nine innings of one-run ball in a 4-2 10-inning loss to Samford (37-23) Friday at Plainsman Park. USM will battle Friday's loser between host Auburn and Penn on Saturday (2 p.m., TV TBD).
The hill could not be much steeper. And Southern Miss (41-18) has little choice but to lean into that fact.
