Southern Miss ran out of magic Monday.
Needing one win to advance to the super regional round for the second time in program history, the Golden Eagles lost twice to Mississippi State at Pete Taylor Park. They dropped the first game 8-1 — which was delayed by nearly five hours by inclement weather in the area — before falling 8-6 minutes after midnight to end their season.
The Bulldogs (40-25) move on to face LSU at the Baton Rouge Super Regional later this week.
