In Southern Miss' first scrimmage of spring football, it was the offense that got the upper hand. But Saturday, during the Golden Eagles' scrimmage at M.M. Roberts Stadium, the defense turned the tables.
From the 7-on-7 drills that proceeded the scrimmage to the final play of the day, the unit showed it had what it takes to return to the form the group displayed that last season, finishing third in the nation in total defense. And, with the exception of a few big plays, most of which came late, the defense maintained that form for most of the scrimmage.
