Southern Miss football named Clemson transfer Billy Wiles its starting quarterback on Tuesday morning.
Wiles had been competing with Houston transfer Holman Edwards for the right to start on Sept. 2 against Alcorn State (6 p.m., ESPN+).
"Billy is a little taller and processes a little more naturally," USM coach WIll Hall told The Hattiesburg American last week. "Holman's arm is a little stronger. They both love football. Both are really accurate. They've both just dudes you want to hang around."
Wiles threw four collegiate passes for Clemson, completing two for 31 yards and a touchdown.
