Texas State took its first lead of the game with 1:21 left in the game on a 74-yard pass from Layne Hatcher to Ashtyn Hawkins. An offense that hadn't scored in the second half now needed to muster something, and the odds were against them.
But, on fourth-and-3, true freshman quarterback Zach Wilcke threw off his back foot to an open Chandler Pittman, who cut back across the field for a 52-yard score that gave the Golden Eagles (4-3, 2-1 Sun Belt Conference) a 20-14 win over the Bobcats (3-5, 1-3)
The Golden Eagles outgained their hosts 318-243 on the night.
