Southern Miss was hoping to make an upset in its matchup versus Mississippi State on Saturday afternoon at Davis Wade Stadium.
Mississippi State, however, had no plans to give the Golden Eagles an edge in the game. The first two offensive possessions for USM ended with a punt and a missed field goal attempt from 36 yards.
Meanwhile, Mississippi State scored on its first two possessions of the game.
Despite the loss, Southern Miss head coach Jay Hopson said he was pleased with the offensive performance.
