CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Justus Reed forced a fumble from quarterback Matt DeSomer, scooped up the ball and ran 21 yards into the end zone with 1:44 left to seal Youngstown State's 28-20 victory over Southern Illinois on Saturday.
With Youngstown State leading 21-20, Penguins' quarterback Hunter Wells led a 12-play, six-minute drive, but the drive stalled when Zak Kennedy missed a 43-yard field goal attempt with 2:55 remaining. Reed sacked DeSomer five plays later.
Wells threw a pair of touchdown passes to Damoun Patterson in the second quarter to give Youngstown State (5-5, 3-4 Missouri Valley Conference) a 14-7 halftime lead.
