Alex Martinez, a freshman swimmer from Gilbert, Ariz., studying mechanical engineering, performs the butterfly during the SIU vs. Evansville meet Feb. 6 at Edward J. Shea Natatorium. Martinez finished in second place in the 200-yard individual medley and third place in the 100-yard breaststroke.
In the second event, the 800-yard freestyle relay, the team of senior Till Pallmann, junior Andre Brilhante, sophomores Michael Wolfe and Trevor Jones set a new SIU record by .1 second, and came in third place.
"We are off to as good of a start as we have had," coach Rick Walker said.
