Ajax legend Ronald de Boer believes the 'unbelievable progress' Virgil van Dijk has made has helped him become 'one of the top defenders in the Premier League'.
The Dutch centre back has been sensational since arriving at Southampton from Celtic at the beginning of the 2015-16 campaign, impressing under Ronald Koeman's stewardship and he has continued his form for Claude Puel this season.
His outstanding form saw Manchester City consider a January move and although that failed to materialise, Pep Guardiola could make another move in the summer.
And De Boer, the former Ajax, Barcelona and Rangers midfielder, says he was unsure about the defender at first but has changed his mind after seeing him star in England.
