Southampton have agreed a new long-term contract with promising academy graduate Harrison Reed, the club have confirmed.
The combative midfielder has been threatening to break into the first-team ever since his debut in the 2013/14 season but has had to wait until the current campaign to get a decent run in the side.
Reed has been ever-present for Claude Puel's first XI in the EFL Cup this season, in which they have reached the semi-finals after an impressive win over Arsenal earlier this month.
While he has only played 12 minutes of Premier League football so far under Puel, the 21-year-old is highly thought of at St Mary's and, in respect of that fact, they have handed him a four-and-a-half year contract.
