Bournemouth squandered the opportunity to claim south coast bragging rights after Harry Arter’s late penalty miss against Southampton.
The Cherries were controversially awarded a chance to claim three points from the spot, following an apparent foul by Ryan Bertrand on Ryan Fraser.
Referee Jonathan Moss showed no hesitation with his decision, but Arter probably wish he had, after sending his penalty high into the stands akin to Harry Kane’s miss for Tottenham at the same end of the stadium earlier this season.
Arter looked to the spot in bewilderment, convinced that the turf had buckled under his weight, but his manager Eddie Howe spun in frustration, as he watched his midfielder prevent his side from claiming a third consecutive league victory.
