PSV Eindhoven only sold star forward Cody Gakpo because of their precarious financial situation, which had a 'knife to the throat' of the club according to reports in Holland.
Liverpool signed Gakpo for £44million on Monday, hijacking Manchester United's plan to lure the highly-rated Dutchman to Old Trafford in January.
The Dutch giants, who listened to offers for Gakpo from Leeds and Southampton last summer before keeping in Eindhoven, have decided to cash in on the 23-year-old now in a bid to meet financial targets.
According to De Telegraaf, PSV must collect £35m per season to keep afloat having watched their wage bill rise sharply in recent campaigns.
