Les Cleevely does not elaborate greatly on what happened during one and a half hours in a darkened room in the home of former Southampton youth boss Bob Higgins, but the affect it had on his life is profound.
His anger at Southampton, sections of the FA and some players for what he believes may have been wilful ignorance towards horrific sexual abuse is also understandable.
Now a respected goalkeeping coach, Cleevely has been running football schools for 22 years and has worked with Petr Cech, Edwin van der Sar and Carlo Cudicini.
He has his own teenage children, but a couple of times a week his memory will be sparked, sometimes by a picture or a chat with a former team-mate, but often by something seemingly irrelevant, and he will be transported back to that room.
