Defender Mason Holgate says he has a point to prove at Southampton.
The 27-year-old is on a season-long loan from Everton but has fallen behind Jan Bednarik and Taylor Harwood-Bellis in boss Russell Martin's pecking order.
He told BBC Radio Solent: "I think I was written off after my first game here by the majority of people - I'm starting to prove them wrong.
"I believe in myself. Once I'm playing week-in, week-out I don't think anyone has seen just how good I am."
After joining on 25 August, Holgate made an ill-fated debut at centre-back in Southampton's 5-0 defeat at Sunderland eight days later and admits he felt he was in 'over his head' as he struggled to adapt to Martin's distinctive possession-based style.
