After guiding Southampton to Premier League safety Mark Hughes would ‘love’ to be given the opportunity to continue as manager.
54-year-old Hughes signed a short-term deal with Saints in March with the south coast club one point above the relegation zone. He succeeded Mauricio Pellegrino at St Mary’s, though his appointment was not greeted particularly well seeing as he had been sacked by Stoke just two months prior as the Potters were in the bottom three.
However, Hughes continued his record of never being relegated as a manager by turning around Southampton’s form and guiding them to safety; they ended the season in 17th, three points clear of the relegation places.
