Manchester City should have had a penalty vs Southampton for foul on Leroy Sane... but I understand why the referee didn't give it, says Graham Poll

Manchester City should have had a penalty after Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster hauled down Leroy Sane in the first half of their Premier League match, says Graham Poll.

Forster was adjudged by referee Neil Swarbrick to have deflected the ball away from the feet of Sane in a one-on-one situation, also bringing down the German youngster in the process.

Sportsmail columnist Poll spoke to BT Sport after Manchester City's appeals were waved away by Swarbrick and claimed the referee had got the decision wrong but understood exactly why he had not given it.

Replays indicate that Forster got the slightest of touches on the ball but Poll says that Sane would still have had the opportunity to score had he not been brought down by the English goalkeeper.
