Southampton suffered their first defeat of their Europa League campaign as they lost 1-0 to Inter Milan at the San Siro.
A combination of poor finishing and impressive goalkeeping from Samir Handonovic, prevented the Saints from leaving Italy with one of their most famous victories, and a first European triumph on the road since the 1981/1982 season.
The result sees Southampton drop to second place in Group K after Sparta Prague beat Hapoel Be’er Sheva 1-0. Claude Puel’s side welcome Inter Milan to St Mary’s in two weeks and will need to secure a positive result to distance themselves from the Italian giants in fourth place.
