The Saints booked their place in the EFL Cup Final on Wednesday night, when a 1-0 win at Anfield secured a 2-0 aggregate win over Liverpool. Although the South Coast club reached the 2003 FA Cup Final, it was played at the Millennium Stadium, while they contested the Football League Trophy at Wembley in 2010, although that is a minor competition. All of which means their last Wembley appearance in a major tournament was the 1979 League Cup Final – which they lost. Prior to that, they had played once at the national stadium, beating Manchester United 1-0 to win the 1976 FA Cup.
